Routine is my normal way of life. In all the stresses and demands of everyday living, in all stages of life, routine has kept me on track, helping me accomplish goals and meet deadlines. Routine often is the only thing that keeps me, and probably you, going. And while we truly do find comfort in sameness, that comfort can easily turn to boredom.
That is why we need a sprinkle of something different, to enhance the present and add some sweet hope to the future. A night away from home, a new hair cut, or even an unscheduled walk in the park, can be as refreshing as a salty ocean breeze. And in the home, just a few changes in decor, like a new pillow, or a sign that speaks your heart, when sprinkled in with care, can be both relaxing and energizing. And the process of finding just the right decor, even on a budget is refreshing in itself. Here are three ways to find your sparkle.
1. Love it or Leave It
To keep your home fresh and inviting, you may need to first clear the clutter. To keep this from being stressful, use the ‘love it or leave it’ test. So for ten years you searched for those salt & pepper shakers every time you traveled…but now they seem to have taken over your space and you no longer feel the love. It’s ok to give it up. Start a new collection if you wish, but don’t be afraid to make the change. This goes for dishes, bedding, books, grandma’s china cabinet, really anything. There was a time it was just what you wanted, but YOU change and TIMES change, so embrace it. There is a cleansing feeling to cleaning out and making room for some newness.
2. Hunt for Treasure
I love this one! When I’m on the hunt for something new, I often don’t even know what I’m looking for, but I know when I’ve found it! I am usually searching for our store or a particular customer who wants a piece for Ashley to paint, but whether for myself or another, I can quickly decide if I really love it. If I do, I know someone else is bound to love it too! I may be searching at tag sales, consignment stores, estate sales, or a boutique, but I always use that same measure of how good it makes me feel. When you visit a store like The Blue Rose, where the treasures already have been searched out for you, take your time; go around two or three times, taking it all in. When you find a piece you love, you will know it, and it will easily find its new place in your home.
3. Refresh the Old & Make New Again
